1966年,全球第一個加工出口區成立於臺灣,婦女從農村走進工廠開始進行勞動。我選用了臺灣勞工文學詩人李昌憲先生的詩集《加工區詩抄》,用影像的方式去轉譯文學與那段臺灣歷史,用詩意紀錄片形式,帶領大家關注女性工人所面臨的勞動與生存困境。
In the year of 1966, the first Export Processing Zone in the world was founded in Taiwan. Women left the agricultural lifestyle to start leading an industrial labor life in factories. Through visuals, I translated the history represented in The Poetry about Export Processing Zone (1981) from Chang-hsien Lee, a Taiwanese Labor Literature poet. As a poetic documentary, the film draws attention to hardships female workers have faced for survival.

離鄉背井來臺工作的女性移工,經規劃或陰錯陽差,孕育了新生命;而當她們基於各種原因成為失聯移工,孩子也被帶進看不見的社會角落,無法得到制度保障。楊婕妤創建的「關愛之家」,十數年來無懼後果伸出援手,服務超過700位移工與孩子,因此他們都叫楊婕妤『咪咪』,就是媽媽的意思。咪咪永遠有很多事要做,深夜接送產婦、照顧孩子、縫製義賣品、與政府溝通應對,甚至徒手接生嬰兒,都是她的日常。在邊緣地帶打造這個共享愛與資源的聚落,有人為她的精神所感動,也有人批評她包庇非法,而對她來說,不分你我的互助精神是最棒的藝術。
Unplanned or planned pregnancy could be difficult for the female migrant workers in Taiwan. When they become the “lost-contact” migrant workers due to various reasons, their children are left in a state of limbo where there is no system to protect them. For more than ten years, Nicole Yang’s foundation, Harmony Home, has been the halfway home for over 700 migrant workers and their children with such problems. The residents call Nicole “Mimi”, which means mother. Mimi is always busy picking up these women, taking care of children, knitting for charity sales, communicating with the government, and even delivering babies. Harmony Home shares love and resources and inspires many people. Despite the criticism of harboring illegal migrants, Nicole still believes in mutual help without distinction.

In the summer of fifth grade, Ciao is requested to vlog with the parents for his homework; however, both dad and mom are busy at work. Right when Ciao's worried, he runs into his uncle who lives in the park and lives on sign holding. An idea comes up; they picnic together and fill each other's life up with love. Instead of a heavy tone, the film tackles the homeless problem from a kid's perspective and explores their means of life in an uplifting way.

Many "street salon stands” are situated under the Tiger Mountain in Taoyuan, which are run by women between the ages of 45-75. These salon stands serve mainly the elderly and the blue collar class; gradually, a more traditional and down-to-earth lifestyle is formed. The stands have no names but numbers; separated by just a thin layer of transparent cloth, the dynamic between people remains low-key but attractive there.

台灣每年培育15,000名護理生,考取證照的護理師約7,000名,進入職場後約3,000人會選擇離開,平均執業率60%,遠低於加拿大與美國的93.6%、83.2%。台灣對護理人員的培育並不匱乏,卻留不住人。究竟出了什麼問題?
Registered nurses (RN) or interns in Taiwan are working hard, even though their own health and lives are at stake. They might consider career change after exhausted by overtime, irregular shifts, work-life imbalance, disrespectfulness and constant conflicts with the patients.
In Taiwan, there are 15,000 nursing students graduating each year, around 7,000 become RNs, among which 3,000 choosing to leave. The 60% retention rate is much lower than 93.6% in Canada and 83.2% in the US. What might be the problem?

The dealer Brother Hsiung gives a lesson to the uncooperative fishermen and makes it a warning to others. Alu, Brother Hsiung’s assistant, sees everything. Alu is thus worried that his father, A-Niu, who is also a fisherman, would be involved as well. He tries to explain his concerns and worries, but indescribable conflicts between them makes it difficult for his father to accept. The unavoidable storm is coming their way.

菲達蒂住在台中火車站附近的五坪小套房,這個套房是她料理印尼家鄉味的廚房,也是她黏土創作的基地,此外更是許多中部移工姐妹們最喜愛的聚會場所。在這個空間裡,印尼姊妹們可以分享當家事工的種種遭遇、當廠工的挫折、彼此交流對遠方家人的思念。她們在台灣認真工作,也認真的生活。
五坪大的小套房,紀錄著菲達蒂在台灣的勞動歷程,她從家事移工,轉換成黏土藝術創作者、移工文化的倡議者,甚至經營起料理印尼佳餚的外賣生意,為了精進自己,菲達蒂還在台灣讀研究所。在她的小套房窺見在台勞動者的種種可能與樂觀的生活態度。
Fedati lives in a small room nearby Taichung train station, in which she makes Indonesian food and clay craft; it is also the favorite place of her migrant sisters in the area. They share about work as a domestic helper and a factory worker; they talk about being homesick and how much they miss their families.
The journey of Fedati in Taiwan has been recorded in this 16 square meters room. She started as a domestic helper, and later became a clay artist, a migrant culture activist, and an owner of a take-away Indonesian food business. To be even better, she joined a master program in a university in Taiwan. In her room, we can have a peek into the possibility and vibrancy of migrant lives in Taiwan.

這是一部以紀實影像為基礎的紀錄實驗短片。描述一群在工業區生活的童工少年,他們的人生被限定在工業區裡,對未來的想像十分有限。他們早早進入打工的生活,在夜晚當起了搬運工。用青春的勞動換生活的日子已開始。他們隱匿在黑色地帶,但隨著商品社會和消費社會的高速發展,勞動力充沛的他們卻又是社會中十分重要的角色。
At nightfall, the sound of a whistle echoes as the young planet awakens. They gallop through the dark night, following pre-programmed instructions, silently carrying out their covert mission, gathering and dispersing. They await the break of dawn, leaving no trace of their presence when the sun rises again.
This is a non-fictional experimental short depicting youth labor in the industrial district. Their lives are restricted, with very limited imagination of what the future can be. Their work starts early, and in the evening they become logistics workers; their prime of youth are in exchange for a living. These young workers are hidden in the shade, but as consumerism and commercialization flourish, their rich labor becomes crucial for society.

菲律賓在全球有超過兩百二十萬名的海外勞工(OFW),他們除了為家鄉提供經濟支持,也將菲律賓的文化推廣到世界各地,尤其是菲律賓人引為傲的選美比賽。在臺灣的菲律賓移工幾乎每個月都會舉辦選美比賽,平日他們是工廠廠房生產線蒼白的螺絲釘,但一到假日選美比賽的現場,即回歸本我、勇敢做自己。在一場又一場的男性選美比賽裡,參賽者呈現多樣的勞動者面貌,有悲傷也有甜蜜,當伸展臺下的掌聲響起時,他們看見夢的方向與家的距離。
Over 2.2 million overseas workers (OFWs) are from the Philippines. They support their hometowns financially, and bring their culture to the rest of the world, especially the beauty pageants that Filipinos are proud of. Filipino migrant workers in Taiwan hold beauty pageants almost every month. They might be the faceless, nameless factory workers, but in the holiday beauty pageants, they reveal their true color, bravely. The documentary follows the contestants and films their various faces. You might wonder – when they walk the catwalk and hear the applause, are they also walking in the direction of dreams, or towards the distant home?
